Fly Rod Kits
Last year, I decided to start selling some
rod kits at the fly shows to generate a little cash flow with
hopes of getting enough profit to pay my show expenses. It worked
out pretty well, so I am including them here. As you can see from
the picture below, everything is included but glue, varnish, and
thread. You can get those items locally. All of the components
come from one of the fly rod industry's largest suppliers, Batson
Enterprises. The rod blanks are their Forecast series of imported
blanks. They are all high quality, fast action, four piece blanks, made with high strain RX6 graphite layups,
nicely finished in a deep translucent blue. The reel seat is their
nicely machined screwlock model in shiny gunsmoke. It is quite attractive.
The grip is a reversed half wells on the trout rod kits and a full wells on the 7 and 8 wts. The two heavy rods have a larger diameter reel seat and a small cork fighting butt, neither of which is shown. Guides are standard hard chrome plated snakes
with a ceramic insert stripper. Also included is a hook keeper
and a winding check and a detailed set of instructions. I think
you will be impressed with the quality of the components and the
performance of the finished rod. Though I do not build any of
these kits for resale, I have built several of the rods for personal
use and am very impressed with the action and overall quality
look of them.
